The Federal Managers Practicum
Management Concepts offers The Federal Managers Practicum, a
3-step training program designed to help program managers acquire the
comprehensive management knowledge and skill needed to improve
performance. Taught by experienced management experts, each step
of the Practicum is comprised of 3 courses in which key competencies in
program techniques, resource management, evaluation, and decision making
are developed.

Program Management Tools Workshop (DAU PMT 250
Equivalent)
Course Description:
This four day course is designed to provide DAU accreditation for BCF
102 and PMT 250 in a classroom setting taught by experienced, certified
instructors who practice what they teach. The first day of the course is
devoted to the fundamentals of Earned Value Management (EVM) and sets
the foundation for the rest of the course. The focus of the first day is
on understanding EVM concepts, techniques, metrics, reporting,
management processes, and how EVM can enhance the ability to manage a
program. Topics include developing a credible and useful Performance
Measurement Baseline (PMB) for an Integrated Baseline Review (IBR), the
vital role of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to plan and organize
work, performance measurement techniques, and performance analysis
techniques used to gain insight into what is going on with a program.
Days two through four are devoted to learning and applying program
management best practices using a real-life Integrated Product Team
(IPT) program scenario where exercises are conducted in a team
environment. The focus of the last three days is on how to effectively
apply EVM, scheduling, risk management, cost estimating, and change
control techniques to manage a program using various software tools that
can facilitate the process.
Course Objectives:
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
– apply best practices for establishing effective IPTs develop
Work Breakdown Structures (WBSs)
– use earned value tools and techniques for program planning and
control
– build program schedules and apply risk management principles
using state-of-the-industry software
– apply current cost estimating processes
– perform contract planning and post-award activities.
