4th Pillar in Acquisition? Update on DoD Cybersecurity

4th Pillar in Acquisition? Update on DoD Cybersecurity
August 1, 2018
10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
PSC Office
(4401 Wilson Blvd., Suite 1110, Arlington, VA 22203)
**members-only**

The purpose of this meeting is two-fold.  First, PSC will provide a debrief of recent cybersecurity policy discussions with senior Department of Defense (DoD) leaders. Second, PSC will provide an update on DoD plans for adding a “fourth pillar” into the acquisition system related to security, including cybersecurity and counter-intelligence, which was recently discussed in June 21 testimony to the House Armed Services Committee. As DoD testified: “Second, to elevate the private sector’s focus on security, the Department has established a “Deliver Uncompromised” initiative focused on industry delivery of capabilities, services, technologies, and weapons systems that are uncompromised by our adversaries from cradle-to-grave. It aims to establish security as a fourth pillar in acquisition, on par with cost, schedule, and performance, and to create incentives for industry to embrace security, not as a “cost center,” but as a key differentiator.”* * Joint Statement of HON Mike Griffin, HON Kari Bingen, Mr. Eric Chewning, and Mr. Anthony M. Schinella, June 21, 2018.

DoD is planning another cybersecurity meeting with PSC and other defense associations in the August timeframe when we expect them to offer more clarity on the current status of compliance with the DFARS clause on protecting cybersecurity and protecting unclassified defense information as well as its planned actions.

Our discussion on August 1 will continue to enable PSC to act collectively in our advocacy efforts going forward.
