PSC Supports Full-Year Appropriations, Continues to Push for Contractor “Back Pay”

Arlington, V.A. (Feb. 14, 2019)
– The Professional Services Council (PSC) issued the following statement on the release of the Fiscal Year 2019 Appropriations package.  From PSC President and CEO David J. Berteau:

“We are encouraged to see that Congress has released and is preparing to send to the President full-year appropriations for the federal government departments and agencies currently under a Continuing Resolution (CR). PSC has long argued that the lapse of appropriations and CRs are particularly and uniquely burdensome on the federal contractor community. Full appropriations bills are needed for an effective government and provide stability and predictability for businesses of all sizes that participate in the federal marketplace.

We are disappointed that the conference committee chose not to include language that would provide ‘back pay’ to contractor employees. We extend thanks to Senator Tina Smith and the bill’s cosponsors for reinforcing the need to support the critical roles that federal contractors play in fulfilling government missions.

Contractors work side-by-side with their government counterparts, motivated by the same goals of public service, safety, and performance. They deserve to be treated the same as their federal civilian counterparts. PSC will continue to advocate for fairness for federal contractors and to work for equitable treatment for all affected workers.”
