Saluting our Veterans

By Anthony Funkhouser and Mike Saum

AECOM has a long-standing commitment to those who serve and those who have returned to civilian life. Hundreds of veteran employees at AECOM work in various professions, disciplines, and markets, representing all services and in numerous countries. We are proud to be recognized by VIQTORY as a Military Friendly Employer for 19 consecutive years, as well as a Military Friendly Spouse Employer, Company, Brand, and Top 10 Supplier Diversity Program in the U.S. We support prospective and current veteran employees, including reservists during and after being called to active duty, as well as our teaming partners at veteran-owned small businesses and veterans in our surrounding communities.

AECOM values the outstanding contributions that veterans make to our teams and our business success. Our veteran advocacy starts with recruitment and career advancement training, through ongoing professional development and our Veterans Alliance Employee Resource Group (ERG). Our robust employee-run ERG provides a peer network and forum, educational opportunities, community outreach activities, philanthropic partnerships with veteran organizations, and more. The ERG:

 • Celebrates and promotes the presence of military veteran talent in AECOM

Promotes opportunities to collaborate with and among military veterans and their allies

Promotes inclusivity in recruiting, employment policies, and procedures

Demonstrates our corporate commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion

We are proud to partner with numerous veterans organizations, including mentoring transitioning veterans through American Corporate Partners and providing internships through the U.S. Department of Defense SkillBridge program. We make philanthropic donations and volunteer in community service initiatives for a variety of organizations, including the Wounded Warrior Project; service dog nonprofits that serve U.S. military veterans with PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and disabilities; hosting WWII veterans in New Orleans; supporting the Society of American Military Engineers student scholarship programs and STEM camps; volunteering with Wreaths Across America; and delivering care packages and cards for service members and their families, among many other activities.
