PSC Welcomes Updated DoD Cybersecurity Standard

Arlington, Va. (Jan. 31, 2020)
The Professional Services Council (PSC) today welcomed the Department of Defense’s (DoD) release of the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) standard version 1.0 and applauded DoD for its engagement with industry on the development of the program’s framework.

“The government and the contractor community must keep working together to address real and growing cybersecurity threats, and we need a robust response to protect our infrastructure, information, and supply chains,” said David Berteau, PSC President and CEO. “With today’s announcement, DoD has achieved a significant milestone.  PSC remains committed to the important next step of implementing the model and achieving the protections necessary.”

This new DoD standard addresses cybersecurity vulnerabilities in the defense industrial base and throughout the supply chain. This standard incorporates relevant control frameworks, security solutions, and mission systems development frameworks. It will affect how companies compete in the defense marketplace and work with DoD to deliver on contracts.

At today’s press conference, Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition & Sustainment Ellen Lord thanked PSC, and other trade associations, for our work on the development of the model, and she emphasized the critical role trade associations will play going forward through the CMMC implementation.

“PSC thanks Under Secretary Lord for the continued collaboration with PSC to improve CMMC standards.” Berteau continued. “Further, cybersecurity threats also affect civilian agencies, and PSC will continue to push for improvements across the entire federal government.”
