USAID and Q2 Impact Governance Support Program and Women’s Union of Turkmenistan convene.

FROM THE FIELD:

Q2 Impact – Empowering Women in Turkmenistan

By Governance Support Program

In countries like Turkmenistan, empowering women decision makers and leadership is a key change factor for enriching society through enhanced governance innovation and solutions. The support Q2 Impact provides to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)’s Governance Support Program (GSP) is a prime example of influencing better leadership. Especially for women.

A recent case in point: On January 24, USAID’s Governance Support Program in partnership with the Women’s Union of Turkmenistan hosted a seminar on strengthening gender equality opportunities for the members of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Central Council of the Women’s Union, and representatives of government agencies and universities.

This worked wonders for those in attendance.

Indeed, USAID supports Turkmenistan’s commitment to building an inclusive and equitable society. So is Q2 Impact.

What does this look like on the ground?

Technically speaking, in order to support the goals outlined in the National Action Plan for Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, USAID equips national civil servants with valuable skills and tools to promote equitable gender norms.

At this particular event, Turkmen civil servants learned global best practices in developing and supporting strategies for gender equality within their national context. Exploring global models, the participants reflected on mechanisms for ensuring gender-sensitive decision-making, preventing gender discrimination, and implementing best practices of gender mainstreaming as an instrument of social policy. Through such collaboration, USAID GSP strengthens the role of women in Turkmenistan’s development and empowers them to actively participate in decision-making processes and contribute to economic growth. The USAID-funded Governance Support Program, implemented by Q2 Impact LLC (formerly The QED Group, LLC) in partnership with the Government of Turkmenistan, aims to strengthen accountability, effectiveness, and transparency of governance in the country.
